The Australian government has come forward to resolve the drinking water problem in Kalpitiya. Chairman of the Kalpitiya Pradesheeya Sabha Segu Alawudeen said the Australian government has agreed to provide 2,500 million rupees to obtain water from Kalaoya, located 65 kilometers away from Kalpitiya. The Australian government has also expressed willingness to repair the 14 kilometer long road from Norochcholai to Kalpitiya at a cost of 1,500 million rupees.
